Basketball Operations and Player Personnel Manager – BAL

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is seeking an experienced Basketball Operations and Player Personnel Manager to support the Head of League Operations. This role will provide operational, program, and administrative assistance for all BAL basketball matters, including player transactions, game enforcement, and team logistics. The ideal candidate should have experience in basketball or sports operations, strong project management skills, and the ability to work effectively across multinational teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all basketball operations related to the BAL’s women’s program, ensuring smooth coordination of all activities.
  • Manage BAL basketball programs such as coaching clinics, referees clinics, pro camps, and the Africa Coaches Program, contributing to the development of basketball across the continent.
  • Oversee the department’s scouting activities, including the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive database system for player scouting and talent evaluation.
  • Assist with BAL basketball and game operations, managing all aspects related to venues, players, teams, and referees.
  • Support the administration of BAL player and team orientations to ensure compliance with BAL league rules and regulations.
  • Help schedule practice sessions and shoot-arounds, coordinating closely with teams to ensure efficient preparation.
  • Collaborate with BAL teams and internal stakeholders to develop and refine the BAL season schedule.
  • Assist in the logistics and travel arrangements for BAL teams, including accommodation, meals, transportation, and visa coordination.
  • Facilitate the design of leadership workshops aimed at building the capacity of BAL teams.
  • Ensure team and player compliance with BAL agreements, rules, and contracts, interpreting rules and disciplines when necessary.
  • Build strong relationships with FIBA and other basketball federations to support BAL’s growth and development.
  • Provide operational support for off-season basketball activities and events, and contribute to the CSR initiatives of the league.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability in project management, handling multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Solid knowledge of the basketball landscape, with an appreciation for different cultures and business practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-national matrix organization and manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French, Arabic, or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Africa to support various basketball operations and events.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in basketball or sports operations, including coaching, talent evaluation, or program management.
  • High-level basketball playing experience at the college or professional level is highly preferred.
  • Experience in running basketball clinics, practices, or camps is an advantage.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
